Steph received her Bachelor of Science degree from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, then continued there to complete her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2019. She furthered her education with Evidence in Motion’s Orthopedic Residency Program in 2022 which focused heavily on evidence-based practice and various manual therapy techniques. After completing the residency, she joined the EIM team as a mentor for residents going through the orthopedic residency.

Steph has been with the PROActive team since graduating PT school and serves as the Clinic Manager in our North Syracuse location. She is also a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association.

Outside of the clinic, Steph enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and miniature dachshunds. She has taken up gardening as a hobby, but that is still a work in progress!

Dr. Dan Gridley
PT, DPT

Dan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Elmira College in 2018 and then went on to receive his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2021. He completed a residency in orthopedic manual physical therapy through Evidence in Motion in 2023. He has a passion for helping individuals in pain. Outside of the clinic, Dan enjoys golfing, hiking, and playing guitar.

Dr. Rosie Frazee, PT, DPT

Rosie completed her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at SUNY Geneseo and continued on to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Upstate Medical University in 2017. She has since become specialized in treating pelvic floor dysfunction in women, including treating various urinary, bowel, and pain conditions. She has special interest in working with patients during pregnancy and postpartum.

Rosie lives on a dairy farm in Pompey, NY with her husband and daughter, and enjoys water skiing and rock climbing in her free time

Dr. Darryl Young, PT, DPT, WCS

Darryl completed her bachelor’s degree in molecular biology at Skidmore College in 2007 and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2010. She has treated patients with pelvic health concerns since 2012 and became a Board-Certified Women’s Health Clinical Specialist in 2019. Darryl is currently a full-time faculty member for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University but continues to work in patient care 4 hours a week. She works with cis- and trans- male and female patients with pelvic health concerns including pelvic pain, urinary, bowel, and sexual dysfunction.

Darryl lives in Sylvan Beach, NY with her husband and son. She enjoys reading, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Ahkeen Williams
PT, DPT

Ahkeen is a Syracuse native and went to High School at Jamesville-Dewitt. Ahkeen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Science from Saint Anselm College and played wide receiver on the football team.Because of his passion for sports, he went on to receive his Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science from Merrimack College. Afterward, Ahkeen went on to receive his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2023.

Ahkeen has passion for his community and is a member of various organizations and volunteers his free time to enrich the city of Syracuse.Additonally, Ahkeen has taken his love for football into coaching at few of the schools in the Syracuse area. Ahkeen enjoys his family,exercising, boxing, and football.

Dr. Adam Ryan
PT, DPT, OCS – Clinic Manager

Adam is a licensed physical therapist who graduated from Utica University with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2016. Prior to attending graduate school, Adam received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Oswego in 2013. He furthered his education through Evidence in Motion’s Orthopedic Residency Program in 2021, which focuses heavily on evidence-based practice and various manual therapy techniques.

Adam has been with PROActive since 2016, and currently serves as Clinic Manager in our Waterville office. In 2023, Adam became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association.

Outside of the clinic, Adam enjoys staying active through weight lifting, running, golfing, snowboarding and enjoying anything outdoors. He is the proud father of twins, Aubrey and Parker, and his Goldendoodle Luna. He is an avid Buffalo Bills fan, one year they will finally win the big one! He also officiates local high school basketball and soccer.

Dr. Dionne Beach, PT, DPT

Dionne earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Sciences from Syracuse University at the Utica campus and continued on to receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Utica College in 2011. Dionne enjoys working with all age groups to improve pain and functional mobility. She has experience in outpatient, pediatrics and rehab settings. Dionne is excited to return to the outpatient setting and plans to pursue a residency in orthopedics to improve her overall skills and knowledge base.

When not at work Dionne enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors. Her hobbies include growing plants including indoor house plants, and outside gardens of vegetables and flowers.

Martha Baker, PTA

Martha Baker has been a Physical Therapy Assistant at ProActive Physical Therapy since 2017. Martha earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from Utica University in 2013. She then went on to earn a Physical Therapy Assistant Associates Degree from Herkimer County Community College in 2015.

Martha resides in North Utica with her husband Patrick, her children Patrick and Scarlett, and her Dog Yogi. Outside of work, she likes to spend time with her family and friends, cook new meals, and travel.

Dr. Dave Brennan

A native of Pulaski, NY, Dave was a three sport athlete in high school where he developed an interest for healthcare after rehabilitating from multiple sports-related injuries. He attended SUNY Cortland where he studied athletic training and became a certified athletic trainer upon graduation in 2013. After a few years in the field, Dave returned to school at Nazareth College to study his true passion and received a doctorate of physical therapy in 2019.

Dave joined the PROActive team in 2021 starting in our North Syracuse office for a few years before moving to the Manlius location where he serves as clinic manager. In 2022, Dave completed an orthopedic physical therapy residency through Evidence in Motion, and then followed that up with becoming a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) which are both achievements in the field that he shares with multiple colleagues. Dave continues his interest in the field keeping up with the newest research and techniques that he utilizes to help promote better outcomes for the patients he serves in the Central New York community.

Outside of work, Dave enjoys spending quality time with his wife, family, and dog. He enjoys the outdoors and spending his summers at camp on Sandy Pond. He is also an avid fan of Syracuse Orange basketball and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dr. Marissa Hanlon, PT, DPT, MSPT, CSCS

Marissa Hanlon, PT, DPT, MSPT, CSCS, is pleased to join the staff at Performance Physical Therapy. A native to the area, Marissa’s interest in physical therapy began as a high school athlete. It was during that time that she sustained a knee injury that required surgery and subsequent therapy. Having a heart for working with people, Marissa was drawn to the close interaction that the profession offered and a seed was planted to help people through rehabilitation in physical therapy.

After graduating from Hannibal High School in 1999, Marissa started her professional studies at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. She graduated with her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Nazareth in 2004. Marissa also earned certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2003.

Marissa began her career working in an outpatient orthopedic setting and then had a desire to travel and see the country. As a traveling physical therapist, she worked in various settings, including inpatient rehabilitation, acute care hospitals as well as homecare in the states of North Carolina, Texas and California. With a commitment to continuing education, Marissa furthered her studies at Temple University during this time period and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2007.

It is with great pleasure that Marissa has returned to the outpatient orthopedic setting at Performance Physical Therapy in our Fulton location. She is dedicated to her patients and she takes great joy in helping them return to a fully functional lifestyle after an injury or surgery.

Dr. Tyler Herman, PT, DPT

Tyler is originally from Poughkeepsie, NY and worked his way up to Syracuse for graduate school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in which he received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2018. Since graduating, Tyler has worked in the outpatient setting and home health care. He has taken multiple continuing education courses through the Institute for Clinical Excellence consisting of Modern Management of the Older Adult and Spinal Manipulation.

Tyler has a strong passion for working with young athletes and helping individuals of all ages get stronger through functional training and promoting independence. He also enjoys working with those that have undergone hip and knee replacements.

A large part of his treatment consists of education with the goal of long term success for his patients. Outside of the office, Tyler enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, Cora and Oliver, picking heavy things up and putting them down, and playing/watching a variety of sports.

Ashley Quaile, PTA, ATC

Ashley earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training and an A.A.S from Onondaga Community College as a Physical Therapist Assistant. She is experienced in outpatient care and has worked with a wide range of patients.

When not at work Ashley is spending time with her family and friends. You can find her camping, hiking and enjoying the outdoors.

Michael W. Fay

Mike has over 40 years experience as an Orthopedic Physical Therapist, graduating from SUNY Stonybrook in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. He is originally from Long Island, NY and has lived in Syracuse with his wife Gwen since 1983. He is the proud father of a special education teacher (Maria) and a Physical Therapist (Connor).

Mike is the former owner of Performance Physical Therapy since 2001 and recently entered into a partnership with PROactive Physical Therapy as of March 1, 2024, where he continues to see patients in the Fulton and Elbridge locations.

Over the years, Mike has developed a special interest in the treatment of neck and low back pain. He received his certification in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy of the Spine (MDT) from the McKenzie Institute in 2002. Mike has also completed numerous post-graduate courses during his career, covering a wide spectrum of topics in the field of orthopedic and sports physical therapy.

Mike is looking forward to continuing his career with PROactive Physical Therapy. “I believe we share the same philosophy of patient care, utilizing an evidence-based, one-on-one treatment approach to help our clients achieve their therapy goals.”

Nate received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Syracuse University and went on to complete his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Upstate Medical University. To further his orthopaedic training, Nate completed an Orthopaedic Residency program through Evidence In Motion in 2016, which provided a strong base of knowledge of evidence-based practice, orthopaedic manual therapy techniques, advanced medical screening and radiology. Nate is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association.

In 2018, Nate became Co-Owner of PROActive PT. He has also served as adjunct faculty member at Upstate Medical University and as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students.

When not in the clinic, Nate enjoys spending time with his wife and six children. He also enjoys playing and coaching lacrosse in his hometown.

Michael Cash, PT
Co-Owner

Michael is a licensed physical therapist and COO of PROActive Physical Therapy. He has been a part of PROActive Physical Therapy since 2002 when he started as a part time therapist. Since then he has fulfilled several roles leading up to COO of the company. During that time he has also gone through EIM’s Orthopaedic Residency program to further enhance his hands on technique as well as the ability to better incorporate the most recent evidence. Mike received his Master’s of Physical Therapy from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. Mike recently co-founded and is a partner in PROActive Works, a company that provides onsite services to companies to help reduce injuries.

Mike values the benefits of being active, for both his mental and physical health. Being active allows him to burn calories as well as workout the frustrations of the day. When not in the clinic, Mike spends his free time hiking, skiing, and transporting his younger daughter to various soccer games and tournaments around the Northeast.

Shelly has been with PROActive since 2002, primarily managing all the behind-the-scenes work. She currently serves as Vice President of Administration.

In her spare time, Shelly enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys camping and gardening.

JK finished her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from University of the City of Manila in 2022. She is the first Virtual Office Coordinator from Welcomeware by Civicom who does video check-ins and phone calls for patients. Currently, she also handles Insurance Verification and Billing among other administrative duties. She has great passion for the healthcare field and is willing to assist patients and the clinic as much as she can despite working remotely.

Outside of work, she enjoys playing video games, watching anime, and spending time with her two dogs.

Rosario (Rio) earned her bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science in 2020. She has obtained her license as a Medical technologist in the Philippines and her certification as an HIV counselor for the year 2021.

Rosario participates in the community organization: Philippine Red cross, which encourages blood donation, provides community services to support humanitarian causes, and aids residents in remote areas without access to healthcare. Rosario has always enjoyed being outside, engaging in physical activities like mountain climbing- hiking, running, and playing badminton. Rosario loves to travel and loves to try different food and discover different cultures. She is looking forward to her first international travel soon.
